Wendi and any others with older children.

When you are at work how often do you kids call you AT work?

I have a co-worker (who I vented about in the last FF) with a 9 and 11 year old daughters.  These girls are CONSTANTLY calling her at work to the point where it she is talking to them on the phone for about 20 minutes (on the clock) a day total PLUS she also calls her sister daily for about 10 min. (her sis picks them up from school and watches them until my co worker gets off work).

Does this seem excessive?  It really effects her work (I think) because she always takes the call in another room and usually she is pissed off after the calls.  It is really driving me crazy.  Am I being too sensitive aobut this?

This doesn't have to do with children, but BL's bf calls her all.the.time. at work and she talks to him for.ev.er.  It's really ridiculous, I'm quite sure if upper management knew about it she'd be in deep ish, not to mention there are notices hanging up everywhere about no personal phone calls unless it's an absolute emergency, she also texts him back and forth all day, and chats on fb.  I biitch at M if he calls me more than 1 time (which is hardly ever, unless there's something going on), yea I go on fb but only when I have a minute of down time and need to chill for a minute or two, same with this place, reason why I don't get on here much.

  • Oh Sheri!  Don't get me started!  My co-worker ALSO texts and talks to her boyfriend (the father of one of her kids as well) all day long, she is glued to her blackberry!  I am at my boiling point with her and I really want to talk to my boss about it.

  • That really sucks.  It's a morale drain and time-waste.  Our company has a written policy about this in our handbook.  If yours does, it might help you make your complaint.
  • My mom had a rule about calling her at work- emergencies only.  And an emergency meant that one or more of the following had happened:
    1. Someone was gushing blood.
    2. Someone had a broken bone AND it was sticking out.
    3. Someone was throwing up.
    4. Someone was going to the hospital via EMS.

  • My son is 9 and he usually calls me once in the afternoon when he gets home from school (phone call is under 5 mins and I have a direct line).  Other than that only for emergencies.  He is really good about it, maybe I'm lucky that he is a boy.
  • I don't work with anyone with kids, but I have a coworker whose mom calls work on a regular basis.

Same for me to...And I answer the phones, and totally recognize her voice, but I like to ask who is calling because she gets all pissed and huffs and puffs in a snotty voice "its his mother"...I ask every.single.time. because i take great joy out of irritating a person I ahve never even met! lol

  • My girls only call me in an emergency, and they call my cell 99% of the time.  They're 9 and 11.

One of the Barbies at work calls Denver (long distance) to speak to someone in her baby-daddy's family for 30 minutes or more on the clock EVERY day, as soon as my boss leaves for lunch.  When her kid is in Denver visiting, she talks to her at least 10 times a day, no joke.
