Any gardeners on this board?

I would love to start a small garden and do some flower planting at our home.  I knew all the good nurseries and family owned places back in PA but I'm lost out here! Where do you ladies purchase your plants? TIA for your recommendations!

Re: Any gardeners on this board?

  • I highly recommend the Portland Nursery in SE on Stark St. They're awesome and super helpful in answering any questions. They have a little desk area in the back (inside) and can answer any questions!!

  • I second Portland Nursery for variety, usually helpful advice, etc but they are 'spensive for perennials. The Division store is less crowded/hectic than SE Stark. Pricewise, you can do significantly better either heading into Clackamas Co or down the Valley. But Portland Nursery is a great place to start. They also usually have a pretty good sale table in the back where you can find good deals if you're flexible on what you want. Other fun places are Cistus on Sauvie's Island and Boskey Dell Natives in West Linn.
  • Portland Nursery is great, as is Al's.  We usually go to the one in Gresham because it's closer but I like the one in Woodburn better.  I also hit up the Milwaukie farmer's market for perennials.  We have lots of very knowledgable people there and I'm guessing other farmer's markets are similar.  Good luck!
  • if you're on the west side, farmington gardens has a great selection and is always helpful.
