Wasps

I know that bee populations are declining but am not sure if that includes wasps as well or just honeybees. I tried to do some research online, but could not find anything to answer my question.

Perhaps nobody has researched it. That would be my guess. This info may be difficult to find... there's no such thing as waspkeeping.

  • Ok. I was just curious because I noticed three wasp nests forming right by our front door and I wasn't sure if it was acceptable to remove them myself or if I needed to call a specialist because of the population issues. FI ended up removing them before I could find out more.

I think he did the right thing. I'm not crazy about them either. Some wasps do pollinate, but they're much less efficient than bees.

  • Wasps do pollinate and can be good garden predators.  I am not aware, however, of CCD being a problem with wasps.

Also, if they're making a home in major path or living areas, I think that's grounds for eradication.
