I found this site that lets you hook up with a local food pantry to give them your extra veggies from your garden. I know I always end up with more tomatoes and cucumbers than I know what to do with, and this seems like a great cause. It is AmpleHarvest.com . I saw it on a news program the other day so I wanted to pass it along.
Re: Have too many veggies?
Saw this on CNN yesterday and it's a brilliant idea! I was surprised by the number of panties in my area that accept fresh produce - I (and I think most people) assumed that they only took dry/can goods.

Thanks for posting this.
Turns out there is a pantry less than 3 miles from my house that accepts veggies.
We have a local nonprofit that offers this with a twist. They provide people with seeds and shoots to plant (to offset the cost of crop sharing) and they provide some amazing varieties, so we were able to pick up some unusual varieties of tomatoes and fruits. For getting the shoots from the nonprofit, you sign a pledge sheet to share your crop with them to distribute to food pantries.
It's a wonderful idea. Who doesn't have extra fruits and veggies by August?
