tv arm mount thingy

Does anyone have a mounting arm for their tv?  Not just the tilt up and down kind but the one with an arm that extends out and swivels and tilts??  Because of the layout of our new living room we are looking into one of these mounting arms but they are crazy expensive (like easily over $200).  Now you can find them for like $50 on eBay, but when you are mounting an expensive tv on it, it just makes me worry that these suckers are junk and will break or something.

If you have one of these things, do you know what brand or a price or anything that would help?  Thanks.

Re: tv arm mount thingy

  • I remember looking at these at Circuit City when we bought our tvs.  We ended up buying a regular mount for the living room and a tilt up and down for the bedroom.  I would also be worried about buying one on ebay or installing it myself.  We had the pros do it because I was terrified we would drop the expensive tv and it would be a disaster.  I would just pay someone to do this at Best Buy, they will tell you which brands are the best.

  • We got our regular one at Target, but they also sell the swivel one.  But it might be the $200+ one.
  • I looked at them and did not trust it at all. We went with a tv stand instead. The TV is mounted to it on a bracket that swivels and tilts, but doesn't sit up against the wall:CIMG0162.jpg
  • Check Costco if you have a membership...I feel like I saw them near the TVs a few weeks ago.

  • well steph... if you would ever come to my house you would know this is not an option =P <3

the tv has to be mounted above the fireplace on the wall and to be able to see it from the dining room and living room, it needs a swivel thingy.

I have been getting crap for almost a month!

What size TV do you have? We bought one for our TV at Best Buy and I do not remember it being $200, but we also have a 32" in the bedroom.

  • we have a mounting w/arm. it only moves the tv out and to the sides. it does not rotate the tv up or down. we got our's roughly 20 mos ago. The mount was roughly $200-$250 (don't remember the brand, it was from bestbuy). We also paid just under $200 to have it installed (DH did not want to mess with it). We saved maybe $20-$40 by using outside service instead of bestbuy's installation service. Not sure if your DH knows how to do this or if you guy's know someone who can do it for less.

Both DH & I definitely feel the money was well worth it. It was a bit unexpected but still worth it. I personally hate buying things on ebay b/c I have yet to save that much money on my purchases once you add in shipping etc.

    GL! HTH.

Just a thought, make sure to measure the amount of space you have for TV & mount. Our's just barely fit above our fireplace. I think our's is either a 46" or a 42" (honestly can't remember) and it's a tight fit. If we would've gotten any bigger it would not have worked.

  • H bought 2 when we got our house and he spends a great deal of time researching ANY purchase, he also got a hell of a deal if I recall. $100ish a piece. He uses monoprice.com

I just emailed him asking which specific item he purchased & I'll let ya know if he responds.

He did not sleep at all the first night our tv in the living room was mounted, he kept insisting he heard noises and that it was going to come crashing down. Hasn't moved & it is awesome! It's been up about 1 month.

  • My husband and I bought a Down and Out TV Mount and it is completely amazing.  They have a great rebate offer, too where if you post to forums and such you can get up to $100 off the cost of the mount. https://www.dynamicmounting.com/fireplace-tv-mounts

My handy brother-in-law put it up for us and it was quite easy.  I have attached a pic so you can see the work in progress.  The website has great pictures and video that are completely accurate.  We really are so pleased with how it has worked out.  Posting from Woodland Park, NJ
