Bridal shower question

Hey girls,

I am throwing a bridal shower in a couple weeks for a girlfriend of mine. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding, and she threw me a VERY nice bridal shower! When she got engaged, due to money issues/etc., she decided to only have her best friend and her FI's sister as bridesmaids. She then asked me to throw her a shower (demanded, more like, but that's another story entirely!), along with my mom and sister (who are also good friends with her).

Due to a random chance of events...the date got messed around with, and my mom and sister forgot about the shower! Oops! So we are now in crunch time -- two and a half weeks.  Thanks to God and my incredible mother, everything else is pretty much in place and good to go!

However, we are still in need of one thing: one or two original bridal shower game idea(s) that can be played by 4-8 people and are pretty simple to lay out!

Any suggestions?

Re: Bridal shower question

  • Skip the games.  I have never heard of a guest going home and thinking, "That shower was ok, but if I had the chance to make a wedding dress out of toilet paper, it would have been fantastic."  If you want to do something, have everyone bring a recipe and have them made into a cookbook for the bride (bonus points if you can do this in time to actually give it to the bride at the shower).
  • Unlike PP, I enjoy playing games at events like this.

I LOVED the games at my shower. One that was really cool was: my MOH pinned kitchen utensils to an apron that I had to model for the guests. The guests then had to write down as many items as they could remember once I left the room. :)

    GL! :)

Oh! Provide each guest with a clothes pin or something of that nature. Then, refer to the bride & groom as "bride & groom", not by their names. When someone slips, they get their pin taken away. Whoever has the most by the end of the shower wins! :)

  • I think games/no games definitely depends on the crowd.  My shower was over 30 people and I loved NOT having games there.  (It was an outdoor luncheon.)

I recently helped host a smaller shower that was just for our group of friends (more like 8-10 people) and games were fun!  We played bridal shower family feud.  My friend just googled and found the questions.  She had a bell to ring and a large white board where she wrote the responses.  It was a lot of fun and would be great for a smaller group is 4-5 people on each team.  All the questions were related to weddings.

  • I don't care for most games at showers but there is one game I did enjoy.   The shower host had written down a list of wedding terms.  Our job was to write down the first thing we thought of.  For example: wedding.  Some people wrote wedding dress, wedding cake, wedding day, etc.  You get the idea.

    Totally agree.

  • How about a twist on the usual suspects...

A runway show for the toilet paper brides
Play "What's in your Purse" in teams
Ask the groom questions about the bride and pass out quizes with multiple choice answers,

    HTH!

Definitely depends on the crowd.  Most of my crowd likes games and so do I!
    - there's a purse game that you just make up a random list of common and some uncommon things that guests may have in their purses.  Then you call them out slowly as they pull out their item..the one with the most wins. It's fun to see what kind of random things people carry. Mom's will almost always have a toy, and someone might have food. My aunt had a pack of oatmeal in her purse!

    - There's the draw the groom on the wedding day on a piece of paper on your head.  The bride pics her fav.

     - I like quizzing the bride about the groom, if you have time to ask him to answer some questions first.  For the questions she gets right, she gets a hershey's kiss, if she gets it wrong she has to eat either a big marshmallow or gum.

-There's a "guess the white powder" in a baggie (baking soda, baking powder & powdered suger look very similar!)
