Since we have so many runners here I thought I would ask for y'alls opiniong.
I used to be a runner, ran every day, averaged about 30 miles per week. Then 2 years ago I got injured (tore a tendon in my ankle) and I became very inactive. Never really got back into running, but did get into exercising again.
I tried running about a month ago and around the 1/2 mile mark my calf will cramp to the point of extreme pain. If I try to keep running and run through it, it will become so tight I can't point my toe. I have tried stretching several times a day, extra electrolytes, etc. but so far nothing is working. Do y'all have any suggestions? I really want to run again!

Re: Question for the Runners
I used to have the same problems, my calves would get sooo tight.
Question: do you strike on your heels or the balls of your feet? Since I have re-trained myself to run using the balls of my feet (humans were never meant to strike on their heels, this leads to achilles tendon tears and plantar fascitis) I have had zero, and I mean ZERO problems. I have been feeling great while running and want to keep pushing myself, but I have to be sensible and stick to the training plan or I'll go too far too fast.
google barefoot running, and CORE running methods. It'l explain everything much better than I can. I know a lot of people run successfully on their heels but it never worked well for me. I'll also suggest the book I recommended to Alise - Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. It's like 300 pgs but I read it in half a day, super easy read, and pretty entertaining.
