Anybody been to London?

I posted this on the Travel board, but thought I might as well ask you well-traveled ladies!

Have any of you been to London, and do you have any recommendations for inexpensive hotels? (I know that the term 'inexpensive' here is used relatively.) MH, brother, SIL and I will be in London for one night because we're flying into Gatwick Airport and out of Heathrow the next afternoon. We were kind of hoping to stay more in London proper (instead of an airport hotel) to make the most of our one night there. Is this possible without spending a fortune?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Anybody been to London?

  • Been to London, but no help on hotels... I went with my family and it was Marriott all the way for them. Plus, it was about 6 years ago that I was there. I had a great time though! You'll love it!
  • I've been!  It's been awhile though.  We went the hostel route when we went.  I bet NesJas will have something to add :)
  • I've been, but we had a HORRIBLE hotel stay. Sorry I can't be of much help. Just don't book here:

    Ew. Seriously. Ew.

  • We stayed at the Days Inn in Hounslow. We stayed for 3 nights and it was under like 170, I think and we stayed in early Feb.  It's close to Heathrow and the Tube takes you right there with a short walk. The area doesn't look at that great, but it was nice and quite and the rooms were clean. It was cheap and simple, especially since most of our time was spent in downtown London.
