We had a company come by last night to give us an estimate on putting down pavers in the front and back of our house. They wanted $11,000 to do it. The already flat 20x10 area in the back was $7400 alone!!!!
This is way out of whack, right? i mean i know costs vary from area to area in North America, but seriously this guy is out to lunch, right?
Re: hardscaping
second quote came in last night: $7400.
We're getting closer
Is the quote itemized? The price breakdown should be clearly listed.
Whenever you get a quote that shocks you, ask why! When I quote price to a prospective client, I have NO IDEA what the previous quote was or what the next one will be, but I can definitely explain how I arrived at MY figure, in fact I'm delighted to do so.
Huge differences in price are frequently very easily explained. Sometimes the lowest bid comes from someone with no education, experience, or license. Sometimes people who submit low-ball bids may be leaving something out, so you aren't comparing apples to apples.
I want an apple that doesn't cost $11,000. Seriously, even when I explained to him that we were looking to spend in the $6000 range, he didn't offer any suggestions to scale back to fit the budget or different materials.
Honestly, i think he's pretty booked up for the summer (they would not have begun our project until late July at the earliest) and he's decided whatever projects they add on now are going to pay a premium.
