like real adults

Ted & I are getting our own insurance policy. Surprise

I have been under my parents policy for car insurance, Ted has been under his parents policy also. Our house in under his parents umbrella policy. It's just been cheaper to keep things that way with the discounts they apply for loyalty, multi-car, etc. Now that we're married and own a house together, we just need our own plan... like real grown ups.

I hate dealing with this cr@p, though. It's just annoying, and hearing all the big #'s gives me a head ache, lol.

This is the last big thing where we were still depending on our parents. We are officially "on our own". Even though we've always paid our own insurances, now it's OUR insurance. Not our parents.

Re: like real adults

  • Insurance sucks.. and getting quotes sucks.  But it's always good to be in control of your own insurance!
  • It totally blows my mind that these things were able to be covered under your parents. It is such a pain in the tush.

Yeah. I mean... I've thought about it, because I really didn't know that in MD you couldn't share a policy with someone who doesn't live with you. I think the way you guys do it makes more sense. I've just never thought about it before because... this is how it is here. lol. Luckily we are just staying with the same company that Ted's family is with, so we will be able to get some discounts since he's been with them for so long.

Insurance is just not fun, and I don't understand some of the terminology they use.

  • I'm not sure what the rules are in MO for different kind of insurance, all I know is my parent's personal policy of "hell no".  Smile  The second I turned 18/graduated from college I was on my own for whatever I could legally do on my own!
    Anniversary
  • I have a bunch of friends who were in the same position once they turned 18! I just got lucky and my parents didn't care as long as I paid it myself & on time. Same with Ted's parents. In some ways I wish they had just forced me to get my own because then I wouldn't be so scared about it now, LOL. On the other hand, I know I've saved a lot of money in the meantime by having lower rates. Unfortunately I didn't actually save any of that money. hahaha.
  • You're a big girl now Wink  I was just talking my my agent on Monday about moving DH over to my insurance company so we can get the multi-car discount.  All these random details we have to take care of when we get married, huh?
  • Awwww - how sweet!  Being a grown up is so much fun!  Now you're REALLY together :)
