dumb gardening question

So if it says a plant, say tomatoes, mature in 60-65 days, when is this from? When its sprouted? When the start is planted? The first little green tomato babies on the plant? I can't believe I've never thought of this before, or noticed how long it took!

Re: dumb gardening question

  • I would think it's from the time you plant your vegetable transplants.

I was just wondering this the other day...I'm impatiently waiting on my beans!

  • I think when it sprouted if you're talking about info on seed packets.

Not sure on transplants. Now I shall have to time my tomatoes and see when they start producing.

  • Generally, you count from first sprout, although in a lot of areas that isn't accurate. It always seems to take forever, doesn't it?
  • Last year I planted around mothers day and I didn't harvest until at least mid/late aug.  Felt like FOREVER!

Actually the harvest in Sept was actually better.

  • Generally from when they first sprout.. but weather plays a huge part into that as well. Keep being patient! Smile
