Poll: The Cheese Stands Alone

There are numerous things in our lives that it seems like everyone loves...and we just don't. Saying we don't is usually met by a chorus of "What?" "Are you kidding?" "Maybe you should give it another chance..." and similar phrases.

So, confession time...

What is something that "everyone" loves that you don't like?

[RULE: You need to have actually experienced the thing you hate. You can't do what my mother does and say "I hate Harry Potter" when she's never read a single word or watched a second of the film. You actually have to know you hate it, not think you'll probably hate it.]

Here's mine: I watched Gone with the Wind for the first time ever yesterday, and I hated it. I hated Rhett & Scarlett, and I REALLY hated the ending. (More about this in my blog)

Okay, your turn!

Re: Poll: The Cheese Stands Alone

  • Onions...

Ever since I was young I despise all onions- grilled, raw, sauteed, fried... etc. etc. My entire family likes them- says it gives the meal "flavor"... they keep saying that I'll eventually grow up and enjoy them, but I have a feeling that since I'm 25 years old and still won't eat anything that has onions in it... I never will.

  •  I hate mac and cheese.

Also, I just read your GWTW blog. I do agree with you on all your points, however I still love it. Not sure why. Maybe the epic-ness of it all. You spend a lot of time wanting to shake Scarlett, but she's such a character. Also, I think Melanie Wilkes is the bee's knees, and I want to be like her when I grow up.

  • Lord of the Rings.  I watched the first one to see what all the hype was about.  Hated it.  Walking, walking, walking...

Mamie, I really think I could end up here. I think most of my vitrol comes from the fact that I was expecting it to be a huge epic love story between Rhett and Scarlett, which it really isn't.

  • Oh yeah. Not a love story, in the traditional sense. Rhett & Scarlett are soooo crazy dsyfunctional it's sick.  I read the book first - maybe that's why I love it -- because I had to accept R&S as the BSC people they are, which then allowed me to just bask in the awesome of Gable and Leigh.

  • Mine would probably be the movies Titanic and the Romeo & Juliet with Leo and Claire. Can't stand either of them (and no, it's not a general aversion to Leo, at least I don't think so....come to think of it, I'm not sure I like any of his movies). Anyways, it used to be Ranch dressing but I tried it again last year and suddenly like it.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Good question.

I've never cared remotely about Star Wars.  I've never seen it and I don't care to learn anything about it.

I also don't care about anything vampire-related, including all Sookie Stackhouse books, Twilight, True Blood or whatever that show is...

  • Saved by the Bell. I DVR'd a few episodes and watched 2, but just couldn't stand it.

Junebug - I love LOTR, but your "walking" comment almost made me spit out my coke. It's so true.

  • Three things:

    Fro-yo

    SATC

    American Idol

Okay, maybe "hate" is a strong word. I wobble somewhere between dislike and indifference on these.

As we suspected, it seems to be one of those "only like it for nostalgic reasons" shows. I'm sad now.

    Okay, your turn!

Along those lines... I hated The Notebook. My roommate at the time told me who the old people were at the very beginning of the movie and it ruined it. And the one night he didn't read to her she remembered him? I didn't like it

  • KB - I have to think that if you'd watched SBTB as a pre-pubescent 8-12 year old, you would have loved it. It'd suck to play catch up now!

I'd also like to add NARS Orgasm blush to my list. It's too sparkly and cherry pink!

  • ::zips flame retardant suit::

    Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse.

I've read all of the books (and have been dragged to the movies) because that is what everyone was doing, so I did it too. Baaaaaaa! I just don't get it. The books were among the most painful reads of my life. Like, I'd rather read Immanuel Kant in his native German while having a cavity filled- sans novocaine.

    Please still love me J9!

I survived the RoLex wedding and all I got was this lousy husband.
One&Only Palmilla - Los Cabos, Mexico
  • Cooked spinach (love raw spinach though)

SATC (the shows and the movies) - totally stolen from Chrissy, but I have seen some of the show and I just don't get the rage.

And...this doesn't count because I haven't seen more than a preview...but any of the Twilight crap...books, movies...or any other vampire related thing.  I think they are ridiculous, and again...I don't get the super crazy following they have.

  • Sushi.

Reality TV Shows; amongst other TV series, re: Desperate Housewifes, The Hills, Lost.

  • Y'all are probably right about SBTB. I'll give a more recent example - The Bachelor/Bachelorette. I loathe these shows.
    image
  • Cheese cake...I like cream cheese in noncooked form.

Survivor, American Idol, DWTS, and Kate Gosselin.

Following this, I'd like to add any VH1 reality programming like Rock of Love.  I now dislike the majority of reality shows. Except The Hills. I told you I'm loyal, and the Laguna Beach love is hard to get over.

  • I hate condiments. This includes ketchup, mayo, mustard, vinegar-based anything, salad dressings. I eat dry salads.  And I'm weird about cheese.

I'm like this, only backwards, when it comes to tomatoes. I HATE fresh tomatoes. Any type of processing though (whether it be fire roasting them, turning them into ketchup, canning them, salsa-fying them), and I'm a-okay on the tomato wagon.

  • Thought of another good one. Chocolate. Yuck. You gals can have my share anytime.

  • I have a few food ones:

Melons- I can't stand them.  Doesn't matter if its watermelon, honeydew, cantelope. Hate them.  Texture issue.  Plus to me watermelon just tastes like sugarwater.  My brother made out like a bandit growing up as he'd always get mine...adults wouldn't listen when I said I didn't want the watermelon.  "Try it, you'll like it."  My azz I will, its gross!

Squash-Don't like the taste or the texture

Cooked Carrots-Taste & texture issue.  Raw carrots are fine though.

  • Two more, WR ones:

    The Wedding March

    Pachobel's Canon in D

Everyone seems to get all teary-eyed as these start to play. I just kinda gag.

    Photobucket
  • I dislike most current music, especially Justin Bieber

  • I know I'm repeating others, but I disliked Twilight. I read the first two books (the first was bad, but I heard there were werewolves in the second and I <3 them, so I tried it anyway). The writing was bad and so drawn out. Honestly, they make no sense and are totally unrealistic.

I also really don't like corn. On the cob, in a can, just no. Everytime my family BBQs, they put corn on and when I say I don't want one, my Dad goes, "Who doesn't like corn?" Well, me.

I won't eat peanut butter or jello. I'm repeating others again, but it's a texture thing!

  • Muscle-y, dreamboat men (The guy on Bones, Shemar Moore).  Eww, gross.  First of all, it just looks sick to me, with all that swollen bulging.  Second of all, how egotistical are you?  Is "you" your hobby?  It would have to be, to keep all that up.  A-hole dreamboats fall into this category, too (John Mayer, the one guy that everybody loves from The Hangover).

Being on TV.  I've done it, just in bits, and I can't understand the appeal.  Seriously, people will bare their whole, embarrasing lives just to get their 15 minutes.  I cover my face or walk the other direction when I see a camera crew (which happens rather frequently, living in LA).

  • Oh my gosh, these are so funny.

I agree with so many of these!

I have never seen and have no desire to see:

Grease or Gone With The Wind, I've also never seen or read a Harry Potter story. I couldn't care less about the Twilight Series. The Lord of the Rings completely blew chunks. I suffered through the first one and feel asleep in the theater. I also thought Couples' Retreat was awful.

I also dislike melon (cantaloupe and melon) intensely.

I absolutely DESPISE Milk. Won't drink it. Gag ::shudder::

I think the SATC series is INFINITELY better than the movie was (and this one will probably be).

Choo, no likey chocolate??? Wowza. That would be great for my diet :)

Mames, dry salad? No mac and cheese? No condiments? I just can't get over this! LOL

  • PB&J - granted I've only tried this once, I just didnt see what all of the fuss was about. I can do a plain peanut butter sandwich, or jam on toast. The combo = no thanks.

Gummy worms and Jelly beans - the flavors are sometimes ok but the texture totally grosses me out. The chewyness...eww!! Every Easter MIL brings us candy, so I smile and nod, and then hand them off to whoever will take them!

Dave Matthews Band - I just don't get it. I used to like the music in the early ? mid 90's, but let's face it, they're really not that original anymore. And what bothers me most is the obsessive fan following... like when people make DMB their whole lifestyle. So yeah, theyre OK, but the fact that they are sooo ridiculously hyped up sometimes makes me cringe. No offense to anyone who likes them, but I just don't get it.

    End rant.

I second this. I cringe at most anything played on current pop/top 40 stations.
