I'm totally freaking out.
Remember awhile ago, I posted that I got a postcard in the mail by accident and it was from someone in the state penititary - and it was very lewd and disgusting about what he wanted to do to his wife (their address is only one number apart from ours).
Well I got the mail from the iowa sex offender alert that said he was out of jail and moving back home and he was in jail for 3rd degree sexual abuse of a 12-13 year old female. Despite the fact that we live about 50 feet from a daycare (Iowa has a 2000 feet law) he can remain there - why? I called the sherrif's office and they said because he owned the house prior to the law being passed he was grandfathered in.
WTF?!?!?!? I am freaking out, as I'm sure the daycare owners are as well. I told DH this is the last straw, I'm putting the house on the market NOW. Between the crime getting closer, the drunk college kids everywhere, and this dirty sick dude, I'm done and WANT OUT. I don't care if DH and I have to eat Ramen for the next 40 years.

WTF is right. We all need to write the Iowa congresspeople to have the law changed. Mmmm, yes, this sex offender is ok because he bought property a long time ago. It's this type of fuzzy logic that hurts innocent people.

Just make sure you check out the area you are moving to and what type of offense it is.
We have a sex offender like a mile away, but really he isnt a sex offender. AZ labels people who get caught peeing in public, as sex offenders.

But you bring up a good point. I am less concerned about the 19 y/o who got busted for having sex with his 17 y/o girlfriend than I am with the 24 y/o who got busted for child pornography.
Thanks for the support ladies! I spent most of the afternoon emailing local "we buy houses fast!" realtors in hopes of getting lowballed so I can get the hell out of dodge.
