How do men survive?

I love my husband. He's smart. But sometimes, I wonder how he has managed to live this long because he does the DUMBEST things when left to his own devices.

He just called to say he got in a car accident - he was passing a truck, and it turned left without signaling. Luckily he's fine. He couldn't see any damage and could tell the guy was poor (driving your own truck for stuff like deliveries/moving doesn't pay well), so he accepted the Ch$10,000 the guy had (US$20). He did not get contact information - dumb move. Of course, he got home and realized we have a huge dent he hadn't seen.

I'm glad he's ok, but I'm also pissed. It's one thing to decide after talking to me, getting a quote for the repair and then talking to the guy who hit him that it makes more sense for us just to pay it. The only required insurance here is against serious injury and death, so this guy won't have insurance. But not even getting contact info and just springing this on me as something we have to pay for? Not ok. If I were so poor I knew I couldn't afford to pay for an accident, I wouldn't turn without looking or signaling. ARGH.

Re: How do men survive?

  • That sucks. I also often wonder how they get through life. It is like they don't possess the most basic common sense. Sure, they can fix a car, do complicated physics problems, contemplate the existence of life - but then they don't know to get a persons contact info when they get in an accident.

    Gotta love them though.....

  • I feel as if I could have written few lines of this.  I love my hubby, I just don't know how in the heck he manages with absolutely no common sense unless it concerns cars.  He cannot remember a schedule to save his life -- including he had forgotten last night that my graduation party is tomorrow night.  "Are we doing anything Friday?"  No, hun.  Not at all.  (Did I mention I bought him a calander for Christmas and taught him how to use the calander in his phone?  It's just EASIER to ask me fifty million times.)

I love DH.  Really, I do.

  • I am really sorry that sucks! I am glad he is okay though! Hopefully the damage isn't too costly for you guys!

My DH put our GPS in his checked luggage rather than his cary-on, he had no idea why it was smashed when he opened his suitcase! Instead of letting me buy a new one he wanted to wait, I got a phone call from him today at work saying he was lost on his way to a Dr appt. and needed me to look up google maps! Needless to say we will be purchasing a new GPS.

  • Car accidents suck.  Sorry!

Like all of you, I love my DH.  I had lunch with MIL yesterday and she commented about how DH is dressing differently.  He has the same clothes and style as he did before we met, but now I'm making sure he actually matches.  She laughed and realized that maybe that was the difference.
