we're having dinner with the IL's tomorrow. we need to return their trifle dish anyways, so i told MIL that we would bring dessert, that way it insures that we will bring their dish back to them.
so....what's your fav trifle dish friendly, summer dessert?
FWIW: when MIL brought dessert to us in the dish it was some concoction of ice cream, chocolate gobs & walnuts. it was very good.
Re: summer dessert ideas?
This is my go-to summer dessert. It is CRAZY good, and so easy. The recipe calls for a 9 x 13 pan, but since it's just layering goodness on top of goodness, I'm sure it could be easily adapted for a trifle dish.
Hot Fudge Ice Cream Bar Dessert
Ingredients
Directions
-
Pour the chocolate syrup into a medium microwave safe bowl and
microwave 2 minutes on high. Do not allow to boil. Stir peanut butter
into hot chocolate until smooth. Allow to cool to room temperature.
-
Line the bottom of a 9x13 inch dish with a layer of ice cream
sandwiches. Spread half the chocolate mixture over the sandwiches. Spoon
half the whipped topping over that. Top with half the peanuts. Repeat
layers. Freeze until firm, 1 hour. Cut into squares to serve.
I've also created my own trifle recipe a few times by layering seasonal fruit (usually strawberries and bananas - put some lemon juice on the bananas so they don't turn brown), fresh whipped cream and cubed angel food or pound cake. Super easy and delicious!January 2, 2010

I'm going to be no help because I don't really like trifles, my food has to look appetizing to eat it, and nothing about a bunch of stuff thrown in a bowl looks appetizing to me. I'm sure they're delicious, but I can't get past the look.
Too funny!
So even the delightful layering doesn't do it for you?

Oh man, I had a good one until you said you had to use the Triffle dish.
I love this in the summer: http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,186,157175-228202,00.html Jello "Poke" Cake.
Maybe you could make something separate and take the Triffle dish back empty?

haha nope, cause once it's spooned out it gets all gross looking. I'm so particular about what my food looks like on my plate lol.
You're right, it does look kind of gross spooned out! Hahaha.
Again, I wish anything about any kind of food grossed me out...but no.

I am not a fan of Jello in things. But this recipe reminds me of Better than Sex cake, which is simular to this, but it uses fudge and caramel toppings.
