menu ideas for noon baby shower

I think it needs to be more of a lunch menu because of the time.  I was thinking sandwiches of some sort (sub and chicken salad?), fruit salad, veggie tray, chips and some type of warm dip, and maybe some kind of pasta (no meat).  I don't know what else or if the stuff I've named is good.  I'm really drawing a blank here--help please!

Re: menu ideas for noon baby shower

  • General comments about what you have -

Sandwiches - I just went to a bridal shower that had chicken, ham, egg, and tuna salad in finger rolls. Great if you like mayo. Me not so much. I would do one or two mayo rolls and then one without; BLT, gourmet PB&J, cold cut. Small sandwiches.

maybe a pasta salad so you don't have to worry about hot pasta? An oil/vinegar/italian dressing based one if you do all mayo sandwiches.

fruit salad - I prefer the kind with just fruit in a bowl, w/o whipped cream mixed in.

    veggie tray - sounds good

warm dip - only if you house has a good place for people to sit and mingle while they eat, I can't eat drippy dip standing up - especially in my party clothes. Maybe serve w/ crusty bread to dip in a cheese based dip?

    chips - sounds good

  • Here is a lunch time shower I threw.
All of the recipes and food items are listed in the post.
  • A few things: is there anything the mom wants or has an aversion to?  Does she have gestational diabetes?  There are some pregnant women who won't eat lunch meat or certain cheeses so I'd think about that too.

It sounds basic and would feed most people, but it doesn't have any wow factor.  Instead of plain pasta salad do pasta skewers.  Ditch the warm dip and do a nice hummus with homemade pita chips.  Instead of fruit salad do a fruit platter with a nice dip.  Maybe some fancy deviled eggs?  Skip the veg tray and do a broccoli slaw and tossed salad.  Or you could just do a salad bar- greens, toppings, and protein (chicken, salmon)

  • Tea sandwiches would be really nice - chicken salad, egg salad, cucumber, cream cheese on tea bread (pumpkin, zucchini), etc.  That avoids the lunch meat situation.  You can use a variety of breads and small rolls.  Do ham or turkey if you want another choice for the non-pregnant ladies.  I would do plain fruit and a green salad.  You can do a tortellini salad with italian dressing and artichoke hearts for a nice addition.

  • Here's a great non-mayo based pasta salad that's gotten good reviews. I can't find that pasta so make it with orzo. I've changed up the veggies and herbs according to taste and what's in season/ in the grocery store.
  • I hosted my sisters baby shower, and I did pastas, subs, fruit salad, veggie tray, and chips and dip, and pigs in the blanket.

I did a macaroni and cheese pasta with ham and broccoli and a parmesan bread crumb topping! It was very quick inexpensive and a huge hit!

I also did a very simple baked ziti, but to give it a little something I used bowtie past instead of ziti.

For the fruit salad See full size image This is similar to the one i did!! It was very simple and made a huge conversation piece!! Everyone loved it! And it is much easier than it looks!

I did the sour cream and dry onion soup (French Onion) Chip dip, and everyone like it...If you want a hot dip though, Queso Dip is always great or a warm spinach artichoke dip is also a good option.

Pasta Salad is also easy, Just get the colored noddles, chop up some cheese cubes, cucumbers, tomatoes, some black olives, add a bottle of Italian dressing and its Delicious!!

Also for the sandwhiches I went and got deli meet (nothing to fancy, just ham, turkey, and cheese) and get a loaf of some good cuban bread and make your own mini subs, put them on a tray and then have a condiment tray next to them! Not everyone like Mayo, Lettus, and tomatoes on their sandwhiches! And it is much more affordable than a sandwhich tray from the deli for 50 people!!

Hope this helps!! Good Luck with the shower!!!
