Recyclable/Compostable question.....

I have two questions, I was watching The Lazy Environmentalist last night and saw a family putting chip bags in a recycle bin......I didn't know these were recyclable, are they?  In this case, I think they were Dorito bags but I had no idea chip and pretzel bags were recyclable.

Second question, can moldy bread go in a compost pile?  I have some bread that is not stale but moldy and I know I can compost stale bread but didn't know if it being moldy changed things.

Thanks!
Heather

Re: Recyclable/Compostable question.....

  • Chip bags - I have never thought of this so it will be interesting to hear the answer. I suspect it depends on what your city recycles.

Bread - I put moldy bread in there all the time.

  • Actually, Sun Chip bags are now compostable. They say so on their bag, supposedly they are the first to do this.
  • I am on week 4 of one being in our composter and no change yet (they say it takes 14 weeks).
  • The chip bags would depend on whether your recycling company accepts them.  Call and ask.

I compost moldy stuff all the time.
