Marigolds to repel insects?
Hello, I don't normally post here, so I apologize if this question has been asked.
I'm looking for a something I can plant and put out on my deck to repel mosquitoes and other insects, bees if possible. I've heard catnip works well, but only if you crush it to extract the oils. I've also heard that planting marigolds will repel them.
Has anyone tried this? Does it actually work? Does it need to be a specific type of marigold, and would I have to do
anything or just plant them? Any other suggestions are also appreciated. TIA!
Re: Marigolds to repel insects?
as far as I know, marigolds (and a specific kind at that) are only "good" at repelling nematodes. I say "good" b/c most companion planting hasn't been rigorously researched.
If you want to repel mosquito try citronella candles.
Thanks, we're using citronella candles now, I was just wondering if there was another (possibly better) alternative that might also add some greenery to our deck.
I always heard that marigolds attract earwigs.
