NO! No dog food! (your creativity needed)

We have food and water dispensers in the breakfast area for the dogs.  We wanted to keep the food and water outside, but the ants found them quickly, even after we sprayed (organic).  And we don't have a doggie door yet.

Miss Scarlett makes a beeline to the dog food and water dish every chance she gets.  There's a lot of splashing and spilling and attempting to eat kibble.  I need the dogs to be able to get to the food, but keep her out of it.

If I put it on a high table, Ginger could reach it, but Rawlings couldn't.

Any thoughts?

  • You could try just feeding your doggies at set times during the day, such as, morning and evening. And keep Sweetface occupied during those times.

  • Hmmm...I'm curious about that as well.

We feed 2x per day at set times...but the water bowl is always down for the dogs & cats.

I bet that bowl of water is SUPER fun to play in!

  • We keep the dog food up on a ledge and when either of our dogs is hungry/thirsty they "ask" for it by motioning w/ their paw on the ground (where the food/water was kept pre-Lily).Once she goes to bed, we put the food/water down on the ground again.

As for the cats, they have their own room with food and water, and a gate at the door to keep Lil out.

  • Hunter just started the army crawl this weekend and the poor dogs are the victims at our house too.  I just put the food down during the day when we're gone or in the morning when we're upstairs with the baby.
