Who has made homemade ice cream?

Is it hard to do?

Any recipe suggestions?

PS - I don't have an ice cream maker...

Re: Who has made homemade ice cream?

  • Thanks, now I'm totally craving homemade ice cream!!!!!  Stick out tongue

We had an ice cream maker when I was a kid, it was the best!  We would pick fresh blackberries to put on top.... YUM!!!!

  • We made it a lot when I was a kid, but I haven't done it in ages.  I'll ask my mom if she still has the recipe.  We did it in tin cans and I think it is super simple.  It's def super fun!
  • I haven't made this before, but someone (I thought it was on here, but must have been another board) posted this recipe.  I have it bookmarked to try... It looks super easy & from what I've heard/read it's really good too...

  • homemade ice cream is delious but you don't end up getting much out of it. so although we have the maker buried somewhere in the small appliance graveyard. we still buy it from the store.

i may have to take mine out and get after it now though

That was me!  I LOVE this recipe.  I make it with my kids at camp and it's always a huge hit.  REALLY delicious, too.  It does kind of take a while to make and you don't get too much, but you can always double the recipe and use gallon sized bags instead.  Also, Target has these ice cream ball things that you can use the same recipe with, but instead of squishing the bag for 10 minutes you just roll around the ball and it makes more.
