So, I waged war on the front flower beds. They needed it. I am still going to take the juniper out...but I'm working my way there. Hopefully it will be easier since I'm yanking roots as I go.
The original owners put down plastic instead of weed block, which is fine. But you need to remove it not just lay more on top like the 2nd owners did. So i'm ripping out a layer of crabgrass and wees and old mulch, then plastic, then another layer of topsoil with weeds and stronger roots, then another layer of plastic, THEN the actual garden bed. It's slow going. In 6 hours of work I've gotten about 1/4 of the bed done.
I think I'm going to have to redo the edge. The yard has grown into it and it's been left so long that weeds have actually grown through the brick.
But, happy note, I will be able to put a couple of hydrangeas up front! There is just enough shade in 2 spots.
Re: Progress on my garden war
Good for you! Sounds like you have a lot of work to do. It'll be quite rewarding to see your finished product after all that work.
I love hydrangeas. My Endless Summers are in full bloom right now!
