baby shower brunch

Hey there I'm looking for some ideas for a baby shower I am throwning. It is for our pastor's wife so it will be a pretty large shower. We are doing brunch at 10:30. So far I was thinking blueberry muffins, banana muffins and either a french toast casserole or breakfast casserole and some fruit. Any other ideas? We want to keep it simple since we will be serving a lot of people. Since it's at 10:30 any ideas on what to substitute the cake with?

Re: baby shower brunch

  • I think the muffins are a good cake substitue.  If you're looking for a cake-centerpiece substitue, I think I've seen watermelon's cut up to look like a baby basket.  You can put fruit in it.

Another option would be to have a yogurt parfait bar... plain/vanilla yogurt, berries, granola.  Folks can fill up their own cups.  HTH.

  • I think a couple of quiches would be nice and could substitute for a breakfast casserole.  I recently made three types for a baby shower brunch and they were really easy.  I just used refrigerated pie crusts and made the fillings.  I would do one veggie and one with meat.

I like the yogurt parfait idea in the previous post.  The fruit could go with the yogurt as well.

  • First, just because it's 10:30, doesn't mean cake is inappropriate.  It's a brunch, so breakfast + lunch.....besides, you usually have cake later in the game, which would make it closer to lunch time.  I think you should at least have some sort of cake/cupcakes to celebrate the shower.

As for food....I would go with a few different quiche ideas (some with meat, some with just veggies and some with both) or a couple of breakfast casseroles (with meat and without...just in case).  Fruit, muffins/pastries would be fine but you might as well call it a breafast because you really don't have any lunch items on there.  Just an observation.  Usually when it's brunch, you have a combo of breakfast and lunch items, so quiche, muffins, pastries, fruit, veggie platter, sandwiches, salads, etc.
