  • Are you and your DH going?

  • I'm not sure yet. We will be in the Jefferson City area for Thanksgiving, so it would be a haul to go to STL, then back to Jefferson City. We had tickets to see them in Peoria last year (nice Xmas gift), but... the people who bought our tickets didn't realize we left for Hawaii the same day. Oops! They aren't stopping in Peoria this year, bummer. I feel slightly obliged that I should see them in the next year or two because of that. (We did sell the tickets to friends and saw Blue Man Group with that money.)

That would be quite a trip. I looked on that website and it looks pretty cool though. My favorite play to go to at Christmas time is The Nutcracker at the Fox. It just gets me in the Christmas spirit!

What island did you go to? I went to Honolulu and Kauai last year around this time and 3 years ago to Maui. Maui was my favorite of the three, although last year I swam with the dolphins. That is something I always dreamed of doing. I have always wanted to be a marine biologist. Well I am no marine biologist, but I kind of got to play one for part of that day. lol

  • Went to Maui and Oahu. 5 days on Maui and 5 days on Oahu. I'm split on which one I like more... I did enjoy being in Honolulu, I'm a big city girl underneath it all. I would like to go to the Big Island one day.
  • If the Big Island is anything like Honolulu, I don't care to go. I am not much of a city girl at all. I get lost in the crowd. That is how it was in Honolulu for me and I didn't care for it, other than the dolphin swim. That is the sole reason why I picked Oahu to vaca. I much prefer Kauai and Maui, much more laid back.

I will also not venture alone downtown STL. I get confused with all the one way streets. When I was fresh out of high school, just received a new car for my graduation present and a girlfriend and me were driving downtown, I got lost and did a U-Turn on a one-way street right into a Sears repair van. The van came right through my drivers side door at 40 mph. Both my car and the van were totaled. It is not but a miracle of God that I walked out of that alive and only 6 stitches in my arm from the glass.

I guess what I am trying to say is... definitely not a city girl. lol

  • Sounds like one of my first times driving in DC (usually always in suburbia) at 18/19. 3 friends and I went out "clubbing" (haha, underage place!!!) and went home about 3am... um... lost and ending up in some SE DC area that chicks should not be in at 3am!!! Miraculously we somehow got back on the highway. Next thing I know as soon as I cross over into the Maryland state line... get the beautiful flashing red and blue lights. Somehow in this whole process I had turned off my lights and got pulled over for that. The cop was giving us a hard time at first... but let me off. THANK GOD!

When DH and I drove back to Illinois from Kansas City earlier this summer, we went through the STL area... OMG I thought I was going to die during rush hour as I was not used to all the cars, and the speeding!!! Get me back to my mini-metro area life! Dh was laughing at me that my city driving was "rusty". Grrr.

  • OMG- something almost EXACTLY the same happened to me when I was 17-18. Me and 2 girlfriends were headed back home at 3AM (after a night of clubbing downtown STL) and a tire blew on Grand and Arsenal. We knew the driver's car was an old hooptie and NOT reliable, but we took it anyway. We pulled into a gas station. We were all scared to call our parents, so we had to keep trying to call one of the girl's boyfriends to pick us up. Me and 1 friend stayed in the car, while the other (crazy driver) was walking around talking to a man with a dog and sitting on the top of the car waiting for help. She didn't think anything of it until a cop came and asked us what we were doing out at 3AM. We explained and he said it was not a good area for us to get stranded in at 3 in the morning. Then he said, "You see that woman?" He shined his bright light on her and said, "That is a hooker, You see that guy? That is a crack head drug dealer" It was the same guy my friend was talking to with the dog. Then the cop left us! I guess he didn't feel safe there either. lol Luckily shortly after the girl's boyfriend came and changed the tire. That was one if not THE scariest nights of my life.
