I've been to Boston once --- and primarily went to check out Salem since it was close. Salem was super neat though. Creepy, but cool.

Also, go to Boston Beer Works. It's over near fenway...
How many days are you staying? It might be more valuable for you to get a T card then to pay for each trip..

That's about 40 miles or so from Boston. Quite a hike... I am glad you can use your friends car though. It will take you anywhere between 40 minutes to an Hour or more depending on when you drive into the city...
