Need generic princess party ideas - please!

I think my daughter would really like a princess party. i don't want to do disney princess - just generic princess with poofy dress, tiara, wand, whatever.

it's pretty much outside at our house, bounce house and water sprinkler thing-y, pizza and cake. very simple for the pg-lady to manage at the end of july in the heat.

since boys and girls are invited, i need some stuff for the boys that isn't all pink and fluffy!

what could i do for goodie bags for boys along the princess theme?

Re: Need generic princess party ideas - please!

  • also, i found gold foil crowns that i will likely use since i think they are gender neutral. and wand streamers.

just looking for any royal/princess ideas i can used for a mixed group of kids - thanks!

  • What about doing similar things but more boyish for the boys....princes or kings?  If you're going simple with the girls, do the same for the boys!  You should be able to find some inexpensive and easy things at party places.  Maybe do swords for the boys to play with and get some cheap sheets for them to put on as robes/capes.  I think the sprinkler thing and the bounce house will keep them pretty occupied...maybe do a few fun games that are gender neutral and not necessarily themed, have cake/ice cream and call it a day!
  • It doesn't fit the theme necessarily but kids always love to have squirt guns and water toys when they are playing outside.  So I think you can easily get by with a stop at the dollar store for your goodie bags.

Here is an idea for a cake though!  My best friend & I made this for her daughter's 4th birthday a couple years ago.

  • Like PP, I was going to suggest swords for boys as well.  Sometimes you can find them in the dollar spot at Target.  If not, there's always oriental trading: http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/search/processRequest.do?Ntt=sword&requestURI=searchMain&Ntk=all&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&N=0

Just a thought on the tu-tus: they might not be a good mix with the sprinkler thing.  You could always stick to "waterproof" tiaras, plastic jewelry.

Maybe you don't need goodie bags, per se.  How about a sword for every boy and a wand for every girl?

    HTH.

  • I agree with PP re: swords for boys.  I got my nephew a foam sword at the Ren. Festival here - it quickly became his FAVORITE toy.
  • Hi!  I helped my SIL plan a princess theme party for my neice in March.  We got tiaras and crowns for the kids to wear.  For an activity, we got make-your-own wands and make-your-own shields for the kids.  It was nice since these were great ways to incorporate the boys.  I got a super cute princess cake from Riviera Bakehouse.  Checkout www.celebrateexpress.com.  We got the invites from www.paperstyle.com.
