I love lemons!!! I live in GA.... and for my birthday i'm asking my dh for a lemon tree for my birthday....I've visted my local farmers market and they don't sell them so now i'm looking to purchase one online and need some advice. If you have purchased one on line plz leave me the info and anything else you think i should know. TIA.
Re: I want a Lemon Tree!
I'm assuming you mean to plant outdoors? I am in NE PA so lemon trees would not do well outside here, but I just ordered a dwarf Meyer Lemon tree from springhillnursery.com and I LOVE it. I think they get to be about 10' if they have the proper space and care. It's adorable and it came with 2 tiny little lemons on it even though it's only about 7'' high right now. I know they need good drainage in the soil and they're supposed to dry out a little between waterings. So far I have found it very easy to care for.
They also have Key Lime, orange and kumquat trees for about $19.99. If you sign up for their mailing list you get special deals and coupons.
HTH!
Where in your house can you keep the tree? How much sun does it need? I am thinking of getting one of these for my husband for his birthday in September. He loves taking care of house plants.
Considering you live in atlanta you may have a tough time finding one for your 7b zone.(assuming you keep it outside) If you keep it inside as I do you may end up having to hand pollinate your plant. It isnt difficult and doesnt take a long time to do. Just something to be aware of.
If you are really wanting an outside variety I would recommend getting one from this site in SC. People on my gardening website have given it favorable reviews as have some other sites.
