Perfect Game Blown!!

Has anyone seen the call that blew the perfect game for the Detroit pitcher?? I feel horrible for that poor guy. So wrong!

Re: Perfect Game Blown!!

  • I missed the actual game but when I got home thought I'd turn it on to see if we could catch the ending...but saw that...over and over and over...for the next 90 minutes before going to bed.  And this morning while getting ready for work.  And sitting here listening to my favorite Detroit radio station right now.  Even worse, the ump who made the call is a local.

  • I saw the replay this morning. I feel so bad for the pitcher. I heard that the Ump apologized. Lot of good that does!

  • Being from Detroit that is all we are hearing about right now, even all the news stations are talking about it.  I feel bad for the ump, it appears that he really does feel bad for botching the call.  I am just glad that Gallaraga (sp?) handled the whole thing with class and grace that I don't think most people would have done.  Hopefully changes will be made to how they look at replays, maybe incorporate them into the game a little more.

I saw the replay last night after the Flyers game and it was so heartbreaking to watch his face.  It was so obvious the call was blown.

  • I saw that yesterday and I feel so bad for the guy. I can't believe that ump made that call, he was clearly out. I don't even know if he was paying attention to the actual game. Yes, he apologized but really what does that do?

  • I think Galaraga is showing his true colors and being very classy about the whole thing.  I'm sure he's pissed and has probably yelled in the privacy of his home (rightfully so), but as far as on camera he's being very professional about it.

And it sounds like the ump is doing the same.

  • DH and I watched the game last night and were jumping up and down all during the ninth inning and then even more so after that call! I feel so bad for both Galarraga and the ump. But, watching the replay this morning of Galarraga's face when he sees the call is horrible! Despite being an angry, local fan, I am so glad that the team and the ump responded the way they did after the call and game.

I agree.  I'm so glad that he basically accepted the call and just continued the game.  I'm sick of seeing players and coaches argue and throw childish tantrums with officials.  They are the authority, they made the call, and they blew it (too often there's a tantrum when they didn't even blow the call).  Having a fit with the authority figure isn't going to change anything.
