Cleaning Gutters?

Hope this is the best area to post this.

What has your experience been like for cleaning gutters/eavestroughs? Did you do it yourself or hire someone else to do it? If you did it yourself, did you buy any special tools??

First experience, and I am leaning towards hiring someone else... what does that usually run?? I've tried googling, but not much luck with it.

TIA!

Re: Cleaning Gutters?

  • We do it ourselves.  We didn't buy any special tools.  If you do hire someone you should probably come up with other things to get done at the same time to keep the cost down.  From a contractor's or landscaper's point of view they have to charge a certain minimum to just show up at your house.
  • It's not that hard to clean the gutters.  You use a ladder to get up the correct height, wear work gloves and drop the contents below.  Someone on the bottom rakes up the contents and either composts or bags it.  If some of the roof is too high for your ladder, we just walk on the roof.
  • We found someone on Craigslist to come do it. I don't remember the cost, but I think it was under $100.

  • Tall ladder, sturdy work gloves for 2 people, trash bin.

We have to clean our gutters a few times a year due to LOTS of trees including cottonwood and pecan, which put out a ton of debris.

It took us about an hour.
