Has anyone heard of Aquaponics?

I was looking up classes at the Denver Botanic Garden website when I came across (a rather expensive) class on the subject of Aquaponics.  I had never heard of it before so naturally I started googling.

Here's a wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquaponics
(still figuring out the tricks, sorry)

I think this is absolutely amazing!!  You can grow your own fish and vegetables in ra ecirculating environment (ok, so that's a direct quote off my link) with very little work once everything is set up.  The entire set up seems too expensive and daunting but I think this would be the coolest set up.  The potential of this has me floored right now.  I would love to do this if it wasn't too expensive to set up.

Re: Has anyone heard of Aquaponics?

  • This is actually how I start most of my seeds for my garden. We used to own a tobacco farm, and this is the way almost all tobacco farmers start seeds. It can be expensive, but like I said, we had most of the stuff already. Depending on where you put it, it can get messy. We grew a nice colony of frogs this year, but besides that all of my plans had great starters and are really doing well after I transplanted them in the ground.
