Moms recommend....

Your diaper pail.

Your monitor.

I had a friend tell me she hated the diaper genie and prefered diaper champ but I was reading the baby bargain book and it rated the diaper genie high and said the diaper champ was a waste of money. The monitor we added was Angel Sounds movement monitor because it had good ratings at BRU - we originally had a sony on there but it was rated terrible - thing is, the baby bargain book rated the Sony an A and the Angel Sounds an F!

Re: Moms recommend....

  • I registered for the Diaper Champ b/c it came highly recommended from several friends.  My friend told me that the Champ can use regular household trash bags, but the Genie has to use the special bags made just for it.  She has the Champ and has never had a problem with smelly diapers
  • i don't recommend getting a diaper pail..We just throw the diapers in the trash...we take the trash out everyday anyway. Every pail i've ever had to use leaked or was just a PITA.

We have a simple fisher price monitor. It works for us. I can hear almost everywhere in the house as it is. I really wish I had a video monitor. I hear good things about the Summer one at target.

  • We have the Diaper Champ.  I only have that one in particular because someone I work with gave it to me.  I like it though and would definitely recommend it.

And we have the Summer Infant video monitor....LOVE IT!  One of the best baby products we have!  At first we registered for the Sony because I heard that was a good one and thought the video monitor was too expensive and unnecessary.  Well, my friend who had a baby before me had just the sound monitor and told me how much she wished she had gotten the video, so I decided to go ahead and register for it.  Well luckily we got it and it was the best decision.  Now I couldn't imagine not being able to see him when he's sleeping.  I am a worrier so I'm constantly checking on him to make sure he's breathing (this is more of a concern for an infant, but I still like to check), make sure his bear isn't over his face, and that he's not in an unsafe position.  If you're anything like me, you'll be glad you got the video monitor : )

  • I love my diaper genie. I wouldnt live without it. She has some stinky diapers and we don't empty the trash every day.

We just have a Safety 1st monitor. Works great and it was only like 20 bucks or something. This is our 4th monitor. The rest had horrible static and feedback. I tried the Angelcare (the one that has the mat you put under the mattress and it will go off if there isn't movement within 20 seconds or something) but I hated it. The static was so bad I couldnt hear a thing and the movement thing only worked if you had the tick sound on.

  • I have the diaper genie II, LOVE IT!  Have not had any smell issues, and I only put poopy diapers in it, the wet ones go in the kitchen trash.  Yeah, it only takes its own liners, but at Target they are 5.99 (the cheapest I have found not on sale) and I use one a month.  Its worth it to me.

I also have the Summer Video monitor, because I, like Gina, am constantly checking on Bug throughout the night.  I love it, and the only static issues I have had is when I get near it with the cordless phone.  I just turn it down while I am on it, because if I am talking, I'm awake and don't necessarily need the sound. =)

  •  I have no diaper pail. We take the trash out regularly and use cloth and disposable diapers, so we don't have as many diapers to throw out.

Monitors - I don't even know what ours is. Safety 1st maybe? It's a cheapie set we borrowed from SIL. It's worked just fine. I do occasionally get some static if my cell phone gets too close to it though. We will be returning it this month (she's due with baby #3 in two months), and buying our own. I guess I'm not much of a worrier. I have no desire to have the video monitor. If I can hear him, that's good enough. When he was a newborn, he was sleeping in our room anyway, so I just reached over into the cradle to check on him.
