Fragrances

What are your thoughts on fragrances?  Just in general..

I have stopped using home fragrances, like sprays or wall plug in things.  Sometimes I use candles, but I am aware of the indoor pollution they cause.

I don't buy stuff with fragrance in them -- or I should rephrase - I only buy natural stuff like natural body products, making sure that they have things like essential oils or whatnot.

I stopped wearing perfume when I had my first baby, and I'm not sure about going back to wearing perfume.

Of course I try to stick with all natural cleaners where possible, most use essential oils, but overall I try to go fragrance-free where possible.

Re: Fragrances

  • I am really curious to see what people say on this as well.  It has been on my mind lately, especially in considering how to keep the new house smelling clean and fresh without using anything harmful or unnecessary.
  • I stay away from artificial fragrances too. They are really not healthy, and I don't feel like they make my house smell "clean."  I find that as long as I keep the house in good condition, and keepthe windows open for fesh air- my house is great.

As far as personal care, I have done away with all of my old fragrances.  I don't want the phthalate...etc exposure.  I just use items with essential oils.  I actually have a perfume from LaVanila (Sephora)- it is made from natural ingredients.  It is a nice line of products to check out. :)

  • I'm switching my perfume to Pacifica and Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab products.

I use Gudonya Too and Everyday Shea for my bath products.

I don't really clean that much, but I'm perfectly happy with my water & vinegar mixture.

If I could figure out what makes laundry detergent smell so good and have it be eco-friendly I'd be happy as a clam.  We've been making our own, and I miss the smell of the non-green detergents.  We don't really use air fresheners in our home, and a lot of EOs are out because of our cats.

  • I gave up all artificial fragrances years ago when DH and I started dating.  He is allergic to them- causing headaches, rashes, etc.  I only used them to a limited extent before, and I don't really miss them.  I've found that being away from them has opened my eyes (nose?) to how bad they were for me.  Getting around that stuff now causes sneezing attacks.

  • We used artificial fragrances very rarely before we went green, now we used them even less.  Our natural products have EOs though.  But we buy unscented whenever possible.  We never did the whole plug-in scent dispeneser thing.  It can't win over the smell of pets, so why bother? Wink
