Kitchen window treatments

Hey Ladies!

How do I dress up my kitchen windows without making the room look "country"?  We painted our kitchen a really pale yellow color about a year ago and I never got around to looking for window treatments.  I'm open to any suggestions you've got.  We have black appliances and oak cabinets.  I wish I had pictures to show, but I don't.  I'm at a loss.  I thought I wanted "cafe" curtains, but I feel like the ones I've seen are too country for me.

Anyone... anyone... anyone... Bueller... Bueller...

  • What about bamboo shades like these?

  • I agree that a roman shade would be a good choice.

I only have one window in my kitchen, but I dressed it up with a roman shade (kind of sort of like the one that Jillian posted), and then above it I hung a metal scroll thing like this (but different): http://www.amazon.com/Wrought-Scroll-Grille-Topper-Pediment/dp/B002VXC8T0/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1275749039&sr=1-8.

  • Our kitchen is a light yellow, almost a buttery color and we have these blinds from Lowes. They are really great, and super cheap.

I really like these.   OP- I think having medium dark window treatments with a heavier texture will go well with your black appliances and prevent that country feel you want to avoid.

Thanks, we've been really happy with them so far. We have them in our living room with silk chocolate brown curtains flanking the sides, and then just bare in the kitchen. Can't beat the price, and I love the texture of them.
