Best shrubs to hide utility boxes?

What shrubs would be good to put around utility boxes in our front yard?

Re: Best shrubs to hide utility boxes?

  • I have a huge russian sage in the front that is on one side of it, and then i planted a hollyhock on the other side. I am not supposed to surround it, but the plants definitely draw the eyes away from it.
  • None.  You shouldn't plant a shrub in front of a utility box because they need to be accessed.  Instead try a tall perennial like the pp suggested.  A coworker of mine has some nice tall feather topped grass in front of hers.  It can easily be pushed out of the way when needed.
  • I have an ornamenal grass, daylillies, and a bunch of sedum.

I'm down with ornamental grass. You could still access the box and even if you cut the grass to the ground, it will be fine next season (unlike most shrubs).

  • we have burning bushes and ornamental grasses. The grasses are in the back so the box can still be accessed if it needs to be
