Essure Permanent Birth Control ?

Anyone had this procedure done? I've been reading as much as I can about it, but wanted to see if anyone has personal experience with it, especially regarding the pain of the procedure and also if it was done under local or general. It seems like a good option, better than having my tubes tied, but I also worry because it is a newer procedure.

Thanks!

Re: Essure Permanent Birth Control ?

  • I had it done a year and a hafl ago and was very happy with it.  There was virtually no recovery time, I was fine after I left the hosp.  My dr preferrs to do it under general anestesia in the hospital, so I was there for a few hours.  Honestly the HSG 3 months later was more painful.

Make sure you aren't allergic to nickle the procedure is counter indicated for people with a nickle allergy.
  • My SIL had that procedure done about18 months ago.....she is now 7 months pregnant.  And she had the follow up that said she was all good to go. If you do it, I'd still make your SO get a vasectomy.

Wow, did they say why it didn't work?

The doctor has no idea.  Which isn't very reassuring to me at all.  They went back and reexamined all of the information and said that everything was done correctly, they have no idea how she got pregnant.  And how it wasn't an ectopic pregnancy....because that is one of the risks.  If you do get pregnant, an ectopic is likely.

Eeek! I've read a few of those stories online so far. It seems like they don't have the procedure 100% down...

Well, it's not "100%" so these stories will happen.  I think the statistic is 99.95% effective.  So if you think about it... 1 in 10,000 will get pregnant (right? I think that's right...I am not a math person).  That is why I say go with two birth control methods.  If you don't want to get pregnant, go with two methods.

This also happens with traditional tubal ligations and with vasectomies

Mine was done in my gyn's office two years ago.  I was awake for the whole thing.  I was given a sedative to relax me.  It was uncomfortable but not painful.  Dh drove me home, and I slept for a couple of hours until the sedative wore off, took a motrin and went in to work for a couple of hours the same day.  I had intermittant cramping over the next few days, but nothing a motrin couldn't relieve.

You are supposed to stay on alternative birth control for at least 3 months, or until you have the dye test proving that the tubes are completely blocked.

I couldn't have been more pleased with the results!

  • Just have your man get snipped and call it a day. Women go through enough with BC crap.  Little snip, he is back to work the next day and then you won't have to worry about BC ever again.
