Family Trip - where to go?

We are at a loss of where to take a trip to in June.  It'll be me & DH, my older brother with his 6yo daughter & 14yo son and our parents.  We can't take too much time off of work and with a tight budget it needs to be a road trip lasting about 4 days.
We had settled on Big Bend but I'm worried now that the 6 yo will not be interested.
No one wants to go to Austin, Houston or DFW.
Any ideas?  Or any input on Big Bend?

Re: Family Trip - where to go?

  • If you go out towards Big Bend, there are a lot of stops along the way you could make.  Stop at Balmorrhea State Park and swim in the clear spring! Then go on to The Mc Donald Observatory in the Davis Mountains. They have some giant telescopes you can look through to see the planets! There are also some historical sites too.

Thanks for the reply and helpful info!  We decided to switch gears and head up to Santa Fe, NM.  I'm lookin forward to the drive and the food!
  • Well, if you go up that way - you can go by Carlsbad caverns and the Royal Gorge!  Also, outside of Santa Fe are some pretty cool old Native American dwellings.  Historic Santa Fe has a ghost tour which is fun too.  My uncle lives there....

Oh, and there is a modern art museum that is a unique experience....and don't forget the Santa Fe flea market.  ;)
