Recipe help please!!

I'm making cupcakes for a shower in a couple weeks. (actually the cake in a mason jar for favors). And the guest of honor loves vanilla cake... that is not my favorite, I'm a chocolate kind of girl. What kind of icing pairs well... She mentioned she like peanut butter but I'm not sure if that would pair well. Any website suggestions for recipes would be awesome too. Thank you awesome nestie!!

Re: Recipe help please!!

  • I think a classic vanilla buttercream frosting goes great with vanilla cupcakes.  But, I don't know if that seems boring or not.  It's my favorite combo, actually, but I know others may not be a fan like me.

For recipes, you could try allrecipes.com or myrecipes.com.  I know that blogs like Bakerella and Smitten Kitchen have a lot of baking/sweets recipes.  I don't know for sure about icing, though.

  • Oh that's so nice of you! The ones I picked up at the cake jar the other day were vanilla with Bavarian cream and fresh strawberries on the top. (Pancho and lefty)

You should look at the website for ideas.

    Hugs!

  • Cream cheese frosting would be good.  I bookmarked this a while back: http://mycakies.blogspot.com/2010/03/diy-cupcake-in-jar.html.
  • I would also recommend trying some almond extract in the cake itself.  Doesn't have to be so much that it tastes like almond, but I think it gives the cake a much richer flavor.
