DD 2nd Birthday Menu WDYT?

I'm tired of PIZZA!  I know its easy and kids love pizza, but DD does not.  I'm not sure what time yet, either 11-2pm or 3-6pm. Her brithday is in September - usually the hottest month in Miami.  I'm going to set up two kid pools, a slip and slide, and sprinklers for the kids to cool off in the yard.  There will probably be 12 kids all under 5.

Here is what I'm thinking about serving:

For appetizers - chips w/ onion dip, pita chips w/ hummus, and bread with spinach dip.

Main course -  homemade mac & cheese, baked beans, pulled pork sandwiches, corn on the cob, and a fruit salad.  Should I still serve a pizza (or pizza bagel bites??)

Drinks - fruit punch, water, soda, and ice cold beer.

Dessert - birthday cake and icecream

  • For apps, how about chips and salsa?  Super easy and can be regreshing if you keep the salsa cool.

Main course, sounds great.  If you're anti-pizza, I would consider chicken tenders for the kids who might not like the pork sandwiches.

Also, if you're worried about the heat, maybe some fruity popsicles in the cooler with the water bottles?

    HTH.

  • I think for the main course you should either add the bagel bites pizza or include chicken fingers like pp said. I don't think pulled pork is overly kid friendly.

Great idea on the chicken tenders!  My kids love the dinosaur tenders.  Yeah - the pulled pork is really for the adults (and soo easy to make).

My kids LOVE chicken tenders - you're right about the chips and salsa - I think I'll change the chips and onion dip to this.  Great idea on the pospsicles - I would have never thought of that.  Thanks!

  • add some baby carrots or other cut up veggies to your apps - i prefer dipping veggies over the chips - cool and refreshing and parent friendly.

agree with the chicken nuggets addition, although my kid would chosoe the pulled pork over nuggets/tenders.
