due to a recent way to close encounter with a tornado i am thinking of purchasing a weather radio. stbx will be leaving soon and i will be here on my own. he normally is the one who stays up and keeps an eye on the weather when it is storming cause he can't sleep during the storm. i am a heavy sleeper and am afraid that i won't be able to stay awake. any suggestions on a type or a brand. how do they work. do i have to leave the raido on all the time or does it just make noise when there is a problem. thanks!
Re: weather radio
I'd recommend a Midland brand weather radio. This is the one we have (http://www.amazon.com/Midland-WR-100-WeatherAlert-All-Hazard-Weather/dp/B0023RREWU)
You can leave it plugged in all the time, and it will alert you to anything within your broadcast range, or you can plug it in whenever there is a storm forecast (we went from #1 to #2 in our home in St. Louis, MO because it constantly was updating with everything from Columbia, MO- 100 mi. away to southern counties that were 100 mi the other way).
My mom is PARANOID about storms and this is the only thing that calms her. It is loud and has volume control, and the noises it makes for really serious weather (ie: tornado warnings) are impossible to ignore.
Stand up for something you believe in.
