Embarassing-I fainted inside a RiteAid!!!

Listen to this--I started getting crazy pains in my stomach on Sunday morning.  We drove from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach, and before we made it to our destination, I asked DH to pull over at a Rite Aid.  He ran in for some Zantac and in the meantime, I decided that I had to follow him to use the restroom.  I made it to the second isle of the store before I blacked out and fell!  I wiped a shelf clean, hit my head, and came-to on the floor, looking up at the ceiling.  I could hear people whispering and wondered if they saw me.  I was really out-of-it and picked myself, phone and keys up off the floor and decided to try, again, to make it to the restroom.  This time, on my way, I called DH.  He heard me say I'd passed out and was headed for the br.  I made it to the restroom door when I fainted again, for the second time, hitting my head on the floor of the pharmacy store!  DH saw me fall that time and ran to pick me up.

To make a long story short, I returned to normal after that.  I saw the doctor this morning who studied my heart and determined that I cannot tolerate greasy food well!  Saturday night, we all ate at a burger joint and had some fries to split.  Evidentally, when I eat greasy food, my "Vegas Nerve" is stimulated which sends pulses to my brain to help with digestion.  On it's way to the brain, the pulses go by my heart which slow my heart rate and blood pressure.  In result, my body goes into over-drive and gets it's adreneline going which all causes me to sweat, loose color, black out and lose conciousness for a second or two.

On our way out of the store, DH and I stopped at the isle I knocked over and picked everything up and straightend it.  It was surprising to me all the blessings through this.  I had knocked over a shelf of peaches in glass jars!!!  None of them had broken on the hard floor!  I only have one bruise today, over my eye which can be hidden with eye shadow!  It only cost me $25 at the doctor!  And the list goes on!  Just thought I'd share in case you know anyone this has happened to!  I'm Okay!!

Re: Embarassing-I fainted inside a RiteAid!!!

  • i've never heard of greasy food causing that. be careful if you feel something coming on again.
  • I'm glad you're okay.

I've passed out twice is weird situations... Once in the book store when I was in college. My sorority was helping the book store with all of the rental books and I basically passed out and slid down the side of a shelf. This was from not eating.

The second time, I was in a stand up shower (with a curtain) in college. I guess I got too hot and grabbed the shower curtain which obviously didn't hold me. I fell out of the shower and slid my face, mainly my nose, across the bath mat. I had a busted-rugged burned nose and a knot on my head, and I had a exam that I had to go to that day... not fun. Then I had a doctor's appointment the next day and my doc saw the rug burn on my nose and laughed after he decided I was okay

  • I'm glad they figured out what caused it!  And now you know to sit down when you are having those symptoms.

If it makes you feel better, I passed out while performing in a choir.  I'm pretty sure on the way down I took out the lady behind me.  It look me a good 5 minutes to wake back up and I was freaking out because at that point they had moved me into a different room and I had no clue where I was.

  • Glad to hear you are OK.  I hope you can look back on that incident and realize what a good story it is!!  Talk about a good bad day!!
  • Oh you poor thing - thankfully you didn't hurt yourself worse!  Stay away from that nasty food!

  • I am so surprised no one helped you! Glad you are okay.
  • I'm also surprised no one helped you!! People just stood around, whispering about it? Ugh. Glad you're doing better, that's kind of a scary thing to go through. I fainted one time during sorority initiation (not mine), but about 90 of us were in the room together, and it was a small room. I had been standing for like, 20 minutes and I guess I had my knees locked or something. Everything started to go fuzzy and bam, I hit the floor. Next thing I knew, I was being carried out of there by 2-3 girls (some had my arms, some had my legs, etc. lol), my nose was bleeding, I had hit the floor pretty hard. Very embarrassing!! After that, they changed the rules about initiation, only half the sorority would be in the room for it, they realized they were packing too many into a room that was too small.
  • I'm glad to hear you are okay.  I have never really heard of anyone I know who goes through this, we learn something everyday for sure.  Take care!

  • glad you are okay. I am surprised that someone from the store did not come over to help/see if you were okay and clean up the aisle.
