has anyone made a cookie buffet?
I'm doing a Cookie Monster theme for my DS's first birthday & I'd like to make a cookie buffet... we are having 35 adults & 19 kids ( I know its alot, I didn't really anticipate going so overboard! ) and we're doing a backyard barbecue.
How many different types of cookies would you make? How many would you make for that amount of people? So far, I just have chocolate chip & oatmeal... what else would you make? Any simple cookie recipes out there? This is very adventurous of me but I think it would really be cool. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I also plan on buying milk boxes & displaying them in an ice bucket.
TIA!
Re: has anyone made a cookie buffet?
These would be really cute for a cupcake.
I had a friend do a cookie buffet for her wedding. She's greek and that's a tradition of they have, but most of the cookies were traditional recipes as well (or holiday cookies since her wedding was at Christmas).
What about only making a few different types of dough (basic cc, sugar, and maybe peanut butter) and then playing around with fillers. You could m and m's, cranberries and white chocolate chips, oatmeal raisin, pb with a hershey kiss or a miniature reese's pb cup. Those all sound good to me.
I think it is a cute idea! I would do 5 or 6 kinds (with larger numbers of cookies of the basic favorites kids will like such as chocolate chip).
I've never done one, but have always wanted to, so I've done my share of research. A few things to consider:
If you're going to go with jars, make sure to have tongs on hand so people to touch a million cookies when reaching for one.
If you go the tray route, you won't need tongs.
I'm currently considering cute "packages" of cookies for my friend's shower. Like this. That way people can grab and save for later if they want or it'll serve as a favor.

HTH.
Peanut butter cookies are easy and look pretty with sugar sprinkles.
These lemon cake-mix cookies are really good and super easy! Probably won't be a big hit with the kids, but the adults will love them.
I've also made them with chocolate cake mix and they were delicious.
We just has a cookie monster party for my ds 2nd bday. We had the cupcakes that pp posted. For the cookie buffet, I just ordered cookie trays from subway. They make their cookies in the morning so they are fresh. Plus it was a good price. hth!
Chocolate chip for sure
Oatmeal
Sugar with color frosting and sprinkles
Those peanut butter cookies with the hershey kisses on top
Chocolate chip with M&M's
I love soft ginger snaps and they aren't as sweet
I think 5-6 kinds of cookies would be good, otherwise, you are sort of required to eat at least one of each and that is a lot of cookies
