OK, tell me if I'm dumb.

Our 5th anniversary is coming up in July.

I have been dying for a new watch because my old one died.  I really, really, really want a Citizen eco-drive.  But, I have stupid tiny wrists so I want a small watch.  I'm also super picky about my watches.  I want them to have a second hand and a date on them.  Eco-drives that have the second hand and date are all bigger than I want because the technology to make them smaller and have the features doesn't exist yet.

Whenever it was that daylight savings changed, I bought a Fossil watch.  It's tiny, it's cute, it's got date and a second hand on it.  Do I ask Jeff to replace this perfect-in-every-way-except-it-requires-a-battery-watch with one that's not perfect?

Or do I find a great piece of jewelry?  (ideas?)

Or do I ask for a stupid Dooney & Bourke giraffe print purse that I've been lusting after for a year but won't buy for myself?

If I don't respond anytime soon it's because OChem has caused my brain to die.

Re: OK, tell me if I'm dumb.

  • Hmmm...if the watch you want isn't exactly what you want, I'd get the purse instead and maybe that watch will be around at anniversary 6 or 7?

  • go with the purse! I love D&B
  • I would probably find a ring or necklace that I love.

That said, I love my Citizen Eco-drive, even without the second hand and date Wink

  • Bah!  The husband is not excited about getting me a purse.  I can kind of see his point.  Will I still love it in 5 years and still be using it?  Maybe if it weren't a giraffe print.

Which leads me to believe I should be finding some bling while I wait for my perfect watch.  Any ideas?  Wink  I've got a string of pearls.  I have a bracelet that I wear every day because I love it so much.  I've got diamond earrings.  I don't think I have a desire for pearl earrings.  What other "classic" jewelry pieces exist?

Sapphires! sapphire earrings in white gold bezel setting . Perfect for your anniversary bc they symbolize love and fidelity.

Go to Gilt on NW 23rd and get vintage/antique sapphires. Its really hard to find quality sapphires on the market today bc the mines that had the prettiest ones (IMO) closed years ago.

My E-ring is a vintage Ceylon Sapphire in plat with diamonds. LOVE! They are a step down from diamonds on the mohs scale in hardness, so you can really beat them up (wear every day)

But seriously, go to gilt. As soon as DH is CEO of his company, I'm buying that lady's entire inventory! There is nothing awesomer than vintage jewelery.

  • Congrats on the upcoming anniversary! Our 5th is in July as well..what day? I'm struggling with gifts too. For fun, I looked up what the "traditional" gift is for 5 years..it's wood. Boo...if he thinks he's getting away with an IOU on a "piece of paper" because it was once "wood"...he's out of his mind! Last year I found a super cute, simple, ring at Tiffanys. I printed the picture, taped it to his computer screen and was given the blue box when we take our yearly anniversary vacation to the beach! They have a lot of cute stuff in their under $250.00 section. I don't know what to ask for....I wanted us to go back to Maui (where we honeymooned) this year, but due to an unexpected layoff last year and having a 2 1/2 year old, that's not happening!

Keep me posted on ideas...maybe between the 2 of us we can come up with something! It would be fun if we had the same dates! :)

  • Our anniversary is on July 2nd.

We don't really stick to the traditional or modern gifts.  Though I was amused when I was googling to find out what they were that a suggestion for a modern gift would be a cruise, which is what we're doing for our anniversary.

I'm not currently in love with anything at Tiffany right now.  I found a necklace that I like, but Jeff isn't crazy about it.  I think he's being more picky about my gift than I am.  : )

His gift is boudoir pictures.  And something else that I'm not even going to say on here until after the anniversary is over because he'll probably google it like he did the photographer.  ; )

  • "enough is as good as a feast," or so mary poppins says!  be satisfied with one that works and has all the features that you like, and let him get something he wants to get you instead.  if he wants to get you the watch... all the more power to you both!  if not, let him get the flowers, or the chocolates... make you a romantic dinner or whatever!  the gift is not just about the one receiving it, it's also about the giver, and their style and preferences!

you have functioning and function over flash wins every time in my book!
