Hi ladies I will be moving to San Antonio and need to find an apt. I would appreciate any advise you can give as to what apts are nice and what areas to stay away from. My fiance job will be in the 78238 zip code area. Is this a nice area, are apt reasonably priced and how far is it from downtown. Thanks
Re: Moving to San Antonio
I live pretty close to where your FI will be working. My house is in the 78240 zip code, which is immediately north of the 78238 zip. This area is overall pretty nice, and there are a few nice apartment complexes around here. I'm really only familiar with some of the ones right around where I live, so I don't know if there are some good ones a little farther down 410 that might be more convenient to your FI's job.
There is one complex that is on Babcock toward 410 called Carlyle Place that is really nice. I have a lot of friends who live there and seem to love it. It's on the pricier side (I can't remember for sure, but I'd say around $800-900 for a 1 bedroom) but if you're looking for higher quality then it's worth it.
There's another apartment located a little farther down Babcock away from 410 called Whispering Creek that was around $100 cheaper than Carlyle Place but also pretty nice. I also have friends living there who would recommend it.
There are many more middle priced apartments (like $500-700 for 1 bedroom) in this area as well that are decent, although I'm not sure of specific complexes to recommend. Most of the really cheap ones are gross and run down, and I would recommend to avoid most of those.
This area is next to the medical center, so it's actually a fairly busy area. There is a nice shopping center called Huebner Oaks that is off I-10, just about 10 min north of the whole medical center area. It has lots of shops, restaurants and a movie theater. Closer down to where I'm guessing your FI will be is Ingram Park Mall and other shopping areas.
I think it usually takes us around 20-25 min to get to downtown from my house, depending on the traffic.
You definitely want to avoid the south side when looking for a place to live.
Hmm that's all I can think of at the moment, but if you have more questions let us know!
You should really look into Carlyle Place. We just currently put down a down payment there. Two bedrooms, 1.5 baths, nice size kitchen, dining room , and living room for under $850 a month. I also like how secure the place is. You get an alarm in your apartment with no extra cost. It's not in a bad location either. Lots of stores in the area. I really should think you should invest in those apartments.
