I have a bike question and you seem like the person to ask
DH never learned how to ride a bike growing up, because he lived out in the country on a gravel road and was an only child until he was 6. I'm no Lance Armstrong but I'd like him to be able to ride casually with me when the opportunity arises. Everyone we know has sworn that they are going to teach him, but we've all learned that it isn't as simple as "just sit on it and pedal!" so I think we need a pro.
What would be the best way to go about trying to find someone who could teach him? I've googled classes but can't find anything in our area. I also contacted a local bike shop and an employee there said he could help but we are here in GA for a couple weeks so we told him we'd call when we get home.
What would be a decent price to pay someone who could teach him? I'm assuming that we'd pay by the hour but maybe we should work something else out - I don't want him to take FOREVER to teach him so he'll get paid more but I don't think it'd be fair to pay him only on the condition that DH can ride a bike at the end, as it may be DH's fault too.
I'm clueless so I would appreciate any advice you have!
TIA!
Re: Sadlebred
You might want to ask Robert Wilhite. His website is:
http://www.mycyclecoach.com
He is a coach but offers one on one services, too. If your DH doesn't have a bike, he may need to rent one. Robert can tell you which shop he uses to rent bikes (I'm almost positive that it's Atlanta Cycling in Vinings). I'd email him (under the Contact banner) and ask. As for price, most coaches charge $75-100 for one on one time. I'd assume a 2 hour minimum. They won't take a client that will pay "only if they learn to ride a bike." In 2 hours, your DH could probably learn to get off and on the bike, steer, pedal, stop, and shift the gears. I wouldn't expect him to be an expert in two hours.
If he can learn the basics, Robert offers a more advanced group class. You could also check into Effective Cycling classes offered by some local clubs and http://www.atlantabike.org. Just a note that the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition does NOT provide one on one instruction.
