Has anyone stayed here?
Can you recomend where you stayed?
I don't know much about it, but from what I do know, there's like 5 or six towns - how is one supposed to narrow it down?

** Confused West Coaster with a Question **
What the hell is Outer Banks? Is that the thing everyone keeps calling OBX? And is it seriously something more than the production company that made Dawson's Creek?
I'm thoroughly confused.
I didn't remember that about DC's production company!

The Outer Banks is a 200-mile (320-km) long string of narrow barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina, beginning in southeastern corner of Virginia Beach on the east coast of the United States. They cover approximately half the northern North Carolina coastline, separating the Currituck Sound, Albemarle Sound, and Pamlico Sound from the Atlantic Ocean. The Outer Banks is a major tourist destination and is known for its temperate climate and wide expanse of open beachfront. (compliments of wiki).
There is different towns in this area - not a whole lot of hotels per se, more like house rentals, and B&B's.
According to Wiki, Dawsons was in in Wilmington, NC / Duram, NC

Yes, I knew that. The production company who managed the distribution of DC was called "Outerbanks Productions." I just didn't realize it was a real place.
And now you'll notice these stickers all across the country:
Yep they are everywhere... DH just scraped the peeling one off the back window of his truck a few weeks ago from 5 years ago. I dont know why he would put a sticker on a car he'd owned for a week but it was a couple months before my influence.

I had my alumni sticker on my car while I still had temporary plates. I felt like it was probably overkill so early, but I was excited.
I guess the OBX influenced your husband the same way
Haha... maybe I just have an aversion to stickers on cars - at least he put it on the window. And he had an alumni one and a Cards logo up immediately as well. Now they are all gone. I used to have a college one on my back window at some point during college but it didnt last long. As long as you dont have one of those stick family stickers, I'm ok with it.

My stick family would evoke pity from other drivers. "No kids? No pets? That poor married couple."
I really dislike the stickers with a child's name really big and their team name and number. I think it sends mixed messages to children about individual achievement rather than sportsmanship in junior level sports.

I've seen them for music and theater--complete with clarinet and drama mask clip art.
It's an awesome, quaint little beach town/area. The towns really all spill into each other. I don't think it matters much where you stay. Everything is very close to each other. Nags Head of course has the most shops, restaurants, businesses. The hotels aren't much at all. I think the nicest one is The Hilton Garden Inn, not very resort-y.
We also haven't been too impressed with the restaurants, but we could just be going to the entirely wrong places.

OBX is so awesome. DH and I and his family have gone twice and will be going for the third time at the end of July. The OBX is basically divided into smaller neihborhoods along Route 12. We've stayed in Southern Shores, Duck and this summer we'll be in Corolla. We like staying north of the Route 12 split, which consists of the places I listed before. The best way to choose a place is to Google "Outer Banks Vacation Realty" and you'll get a a bunch of results for different rental companies. Then search by the KIND of house your'e looking for (do you have a dog, want wifi, number of rooms, etc.) if you don't care to much about the town location. Like I said before though, we prefer staying north of the Route 12 split, as it's much more quiet and less commericialized (but don't worry, you still have grocery stores, restaurants and putt putt!). There aren't really many hotels, you generally rent a house or a condo (not too many of those though) for a week's stay, starting either Fri., Sat. or Sun., depending on the realty company. Find out when you can get into whichever place you go with and leave for OBX early as the traffic is bad on those three days (also if you stay somewhere along North Route 12 it's only a two lane road, so it does get backed up!). The beaches are really nice and not crowded like other big east coast beaches, where the lodging is primarily hotels. We love OBX and plan on making it our vacation spot once we have our own family...it's also were my DH proposed so it's pretty special to us! It's a really great place for a relaxing vacation.
