any father's day gift ideas?

My father is very hard to buy for!  He loves tools, so I have gotten him Home Depot gift cards.  I am expecting a baby any day.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thanks a bunch!

Re: any father's day gift ideas?

  • I would think that the Home Depot cards are enough, but that's just me. I get my dad the same, gift cards to his local hardware store.

  • Gift cards a great route.

Because I never got around to buying a gift for my mom in time for Mother's Day (I'm not a terrible daughter, we did cook her b/fast and brought flowers), we're probably going to get my parents a joint gift card to a fancy steak house for Mother's/Father's Day.

How about a new wallet with a paper that says "space reserved for grandbaby photo here"?

Maybe a photo frame with 2 openings?  You can put a photo os you as a baby in one opening and leave the other space for you baby.

    A grandpa t-shirt?

Nice beer mugs or bottle of wine?

    HTH.

  • My dad is getting a grill cover and a bottle of wine.  FIL is getting this cool golf hat that has is name stitched on the side and a magnetic spot to keep a ball marker.
  • My sis and I are going in together and buying my dad a Kindle (which is an e book reader from amazon).  Not sure what DH is thinking for his dad.  They tend to do smaller gifts on his side of the family so it might be local beer and/or something grill related.
  • I got a kindle for my anniversary.  It's the best thing ever!
  • Both dad and father-in-law are getting a care package of cookies. We usually don't do much for mothers/fathers day. My dad is just happy with a phone call

    LOVE the kindle!!

  • Thanks for the feedback on the kindle!  I hadn't seen one until I visited relatives over memorial day.  My dad just had surgery to repair a few tendons in his ankle, so I figured he could get a lot of use out of a book reader during his down time! :)
  • I haven't researched or looked into this but Barnes & Noble has a book reader too called The Nook. (I think thats what it is called) but like I said I can't vouch for which one is better. Just giving another reader option!

  • I am throwing a suprise dinner party for my dad.  He is another one of those guys who are extremely hard to buy for... I invited all my siblings and he is going to be super excited, i think...

  • my siblings and i always go in together to get my dad something bigger, because hes the hardest to shop for.

    we have gotten him:

6 months of dvr upgrade to his cable... 6 months of his first cell phone... concert tickets...

i like the photo frame idea, perhaps a pic of dad and you when you were little and leave an opening as pp stated. you can engrave it "the best dads make the best grandads"

you can do a digital scrapbook with pics of you (and siblings) digital scrapbooks are super easy to whip together quickly with no mess. it can be printed at walmart or made into a dvd slideshow and add a good father/daughter song.
