Our dog went to the emergency room last night! :(

What a night!  We got home last night and the power was out in most of the houses in our neighborhood.  Not totally out, but lights were very dim.  DH and I went upstairs to call someone on his speakerphone and suddenly the neighborhood goes black.  So we start down the stairs, the dog behind us.  DH says, let me go first and the next thing I hear is "thump...thump...crash!"  I panic but of course it's pitch black so as we're making our way down the stairs and we hear him run down the hall.  So we think, all good.  But then he lays down in his bed and is just panting non-stop.  I know something is wrong so off to the emergency room at 11pm we go.

He was examined, and had X-rays.  Nothing is broken and no internal bleeding but he apparently has a disk issue in his back and the fall aggravated it so he was in pain.  They gave him a shot which made him very lethargic, even this morning, and he has pain pills and muscle relaxers.  I was so upset - I cried practically the whole time we were there.  He seemed OK this morning and had his normal walk - although I didn't take him as far.  I didn't want to push him.  But he hasn't eaten yet.

Then we decide since he's on the muscle relaxers, we should try to keep his bathing appt because he normally hates that place but maybe the meds will relax him (his nails are hideously long and need attention).  But he was shaking by the time we got inside.  DH was so upset (I think he actually teared up) that we just said forget it and took him back home.

My poor little guy! I think I'm going to try to find a place that comes to you for the bath and trim.  What a night.  Can't wait to get home and cuddle with him.
