Long story short...

I made my coworker cry today because she posted private, work related privileged information as her facebook status... causing NINE people from our dept to comment.... and start a ruckus. So when she got to work, we talked to her, and she didn't understand the seriousness of what she posted so I REALLY yelled at her. I didn't call her names or anything, but I was noticeably mad... like shaking mad... Bah.

That's the short version. It made for an interesting day.

Yikes. But, sometimes you really have to be the bad guy to make people see the err of their ways. Sounds like she made an extremely dumb move and honestly, people get fired for less than that!

  • Yeah, seriously. I stressed that to her. If she was in the "real world" and not science, her ass would have been fired loooonnnng ago. This isn't her first offense either.
  • Oye, what a situation.  How can she still be around then after posting that kind of information?  It sucks that it got to that point, but hopefully she got the idea that what she did was not acceptable or professional.

In academia, people really don't get fired regardless of how many violations they break.  Let me back up and say that it might not be the case for all colleges/universities, but this is the way it's been at every institution I've worked at, and it seems to be the same case here.

At the universities I've worked at, staff gets fired pretty easily.  Faculty, not so much.  Tenured faculty... lol... takes an act of God.

  • Zip it!..Remind me never to piss you off...

Haha. It takes a lot to push me over the edge, but then I can't control it. You're fine though, buddy!

  • We didn't tell the supervisors, just because our intentions weren't to throw anyone under the bus. I mean, we had her take it down, and I think she knows what she did, so it's over as far as I'm concerned. If she does something similar again, THAT'S when I'll say something.
