Typing on the Touch/iPhone

Has anyone figured out how to drop a cursor into the middle of a word? Oftentimes I don't realize there is a typo (or iPod auto-correct that I don't want) until I'm several words out. Rather than retype the entire word, I'd like to drop the cursor into the middle of the word to fix just the letters at issue, but I have yet to make this happen. Is anyone else able to do it?

Also, is there a way to scroll up and down in text? Once it has "disappeared" from view, the best I can manage is to erase words to pull the text back down into view.

Hopefully this all makes sense. Thanks for any help.

It might depend on what version of the OS you're running, but to drop the cursor just touch and hold over where you want and a magnifying circle will pop up and allow you better control over where you want the cursor.

As for seeing previously typed text, just use your fingers to drag the text block down.

I'll try to magnifying circle.  I didn't realize you could drop a cursor into the magnified word.

As for the scrolling, I don't think I explained myself very well.  I realize I can scroll up and down when all of the text is visible.  The problem is if I type enough to fill up the text box and then continue typing.

Responding to Nest posts is a great example of this.  The text box is a set size and does not expand as I type, so once the box is filled, the text at the top starts "disappearing" as more text is added to the bottom, and I cannot simply scroll it back down.

I don't have this problem with things like email, where the entire page remains available to me and I can scoll up and down.  Now that I think about it, I'm wondering if the Nest is the only place where I have this problem...

  • Oh sweet, thanks for explaining how to edit a misspelled word! That has driven me crazy b/c I've always just deleted and then retyped the word.

  • OP: I know what scrolling thing you are talking about and it drives me crazy. I can't explain it any better though.

Oh good, I'm not completely crazy, LOL!  It's incredibly frustrating, isn't it?

I think you just touch and hold, and then drag. My battery us dying, though, so I don't have time to type enough to try it out. I could be wrong, but I think I remember getting this to work.

Yeah, I would suggest doing a selection.  I think it's a double tap to pull up the "copy" settings, once you've got one word highlighted, drag the first blue ball (hehe) backwards.  It should start highlighting and let you see your text.

It's probably just TN that you have issues with (or maybe other form type things) since Java is off.  TN/TK IT is working on a iPhone/iPod/iPad friendly version of the site.

For now, other than the highlighting thing, I'd just suggest typing less at once. Stick out tongue
