For the past few months, Huz and I have been trying to eat more local and organic and have become more aware about where our food comes from. I'm also starting Weight Watchers soon. My aunt and cousin have started it and were giving me a quick tutorial before my first meeting tomorrow. A lot of the food they were recommending ("You should buy this! It's only one point! These are like only two points a serving! You can eat a bunch of this for 1 point!") and a lot of the suggestions in the litle handbook were processed and not stuff I would ordinarily buy.
Did you find that eating local and weight watchers went hand in hand and were easy to do? Did you have trouble eating all those points? Any thoughts/tips/tricks/advice? I'm in Northern California, so I know we have tons of beautiful fresh produce to choose from (which I totally take advantage of by doing a lot of my shopping at the FM). I think I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to work this out. TIA!
Re: Any locavores/clean eaters do weight watchers?
I do. I'm not sure where you are Moosie, but I have found it really easy to do this. I buy all my produce from my farmer's market, and everything else (usually) from Whole Foods, where most things I buy are produced locally.
The stuff I buy for the kids lunches- like frozen & boxed items aren't always local, but the meat, produce & dairy are.
I would think so. People use a lot of the 0 and 1 point (processed/fake) foods to fill up their day but you can definitely still follow WW and stay w/in points with REAL food.
To me it's like healthy/nutritious/real food as fuel for your body. Or how can I eat as much junk as possible without eating a calorie. (generalizations, obviously, but YKWIM?)
Thanks Ladies. I appreciate the help.I agree, and am going to try to use up the points with real, healthy food.
I'm in SJ too megan, so I am definitely going to try out the Whole Foods near here. I've stuck to TJs for milk & yogurt & other stuff I don't find at the FM, but I'd like to broaden my horizons a little. Thanks!
There is nothing lower in pts. than fruits and veggies.
WW is a business and conducts itself as such with their products, etc. But there is no reason you have to purchase those products. My leader practially discourages us from buying them.
And if you follow the Simply Filling Technique (formerly Core) there isn't much room for overly processed foods. (This is what I do.)
As far as your points are concerned, you don't have to eat them all if you don't need them. That happens often when people first start out.
I've had good weight loss success following the Primal Blueprint lifestyle. It's a controlled carbohydrate plan that gets rid of all processed foods and grains but encourages lots of organic veggies, grassfed or wild meats, good fats, etc. I've lots 32 lbs so far and I eat like a queen
Tonight I'm having a grassfed NY strip, a salad, some grilled squash and zucchini and maybe some berries with heavy whipped cream if I have room for dessert. It follows well with a local/clean eating lifestyle. If you find WW doesn't work for you, you might check it out.
