Grand Floral Parade

Please help a newbie out!!!

I see that there are tickets online for the GFP on Sat morning.  I'm assuming that's how The_Jen has front row seats... very jealous!! :)

Do I need to buy advanced ticket?? Is there the option of just showing up & standing along the route?  What time should we get there?  Any info you have would help me out.

Thanks!!

Re: Grand Floral Parade

  • I was talking to a CO about it and I gather that you can just grab a spot along hte route and watch (just like a normal parade) but since it's considered the biggest parade of the year here in PDX, they have special seating as well where you're guarunteed to have a seat and good view...

we're just going to take the MAX in and watch somewhere...

  • It's going to be crazy.  I would reccomend you get there as early as possible.  Parking will be INSANE, and the MAX will be packed also.  Traffic is screwed up all day from the parade.  The parade starts at the Memorial Coliseum at 10am, and winds through NE Portland and Downtosn, and ends at 2:00.

Teachnically you could just show up and stand, however...it's not realistic.  People have been leaving their personal chairs out along the parade rout for weeks now.  You will be hard-pressed to find a decent place to stand and watch the parade...If you really want to watch it, I would buy a seat, or take some cheap chairs down (like, today) and try to set them up somewhere and try to hold a spot.  Or watch it on TV.

It's going to be gorgeous weather though, so I think it will be a lovely parade!

I got the seats as a comp from my DH's work, so sorry, no hookups that I can share!

Oh yah, I forgot the part where my CW said that her parnets used to camp out the night before in order to get a spot (but there were 5 of them, so they needed a big spot). I was worried about it being too crowded, but she said if it was just us two, there's probably somewhere we could find to stand and watch. We'll probably be downtown in the AM anyways, so it's worth trying I guess?

  • Thanks for the advice.  I guess the only good news is that I can walk to the parade because we live downtown.  No parking or MAX needed.  In fact, I should probably not plan on driving anywhere on Sat. is what I am hearing. lol

I'm such a nerd.  I love parades & I really want to go...and the weather is going to be FANTASTIC...  I may just suck it up & buy a ticket... guess I'll run it by DH tonight... hmmmmm....

**Wait... but all the tickets are for seats near Memorial Coliseum, right?? Then it is out of the way for us to get there.  I think I'll just go for a "walk" on Sat. & see what happens.

  • We haven't gone in several years, but we always just go down early the morning of and walk the parade route until we find someplace we can squeeze in.  For me, it's mostly about the atmosphere and people.  We figure if we go and can't find a place to watch, we'll just go get some breakfast!
  • Great idea! Thanks!
